Description
It can be frustrating when a child with autism seems to dislike their teachers and teaching environments. When teachers and teaching environments become “paired” with un-preferred activities instead of fun or preferred activities, the mere presence of a teacher or teaching materials can evoke problem behavior. Many children with autism have not YET learned that being around others can be fun, reinforcing, or valuable. If a child enjoys being around teachers and teaching environments, it becomes easier to teach language and other important skills that they so desperately need.
In this module we’ll cover these learning objectives:
- Explain why many children with autism dislike teachers and teaching environments.
- List three benefits of pairing yourself with positive reinforcement.
- Implement the steps involved to become a conditioned reinforcer.
