I highly recommend Tom Caffrey’s DVD training series for professional development use for anyone working with students with developmental disabilities. The series brings the principles of behavior analysis to a practical level and gave my staff the professional learning opportunity to improve their teaching techniques and therefore enhance student learning. My staff’s increased skill development has brought about meaningful and positive change in our students from improved functional skills, positive changes in their behavior and mastery of language skills. In this high stakes era of higher standards and teacher evaluations based in part on student achievement, professional development needs to create opportunities for teachers to grow and develop in their practice so that they, in turn can help students grow and develop their knowledge and ability. This video series provided for quality conversation and practical next steps for the novice and experienced staff member.
